Welcome to my first official blog! I want to start by saying, “Thank you!” to our wonderful PTO who donated a bunch of new books to our media center!

That said, I am so excited to announce that we have added several new graphic novels to our collection. For those of you who have been reading them all along, bear with me as I give a brief description of what a graphic novel is. A graphic novel is a novel that is told through illustrations, like a comic strip, with speech bubbles. Each page is broken into picture panels that are used to tell the story. It is important, that you, as the reader take your time looking at the illustrations because you need to read the pictures as well as the speech bubbles and captions! These books are fun to read! Girls, they are not just for boys, and I am very happy to add that I have four new books that will definitely interest you.

For those of you who love the Captain Underpants Series by Dav Pilkey, I have great news. Some of our books were just LOVED by our students, maybe a bit too much, and needed to be replaced. I’ve replaced the first four books of the series with new hard cover books, and we also received several paperback books! I just added the seventh book of the series, Captain Underpants and the Big Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy, Part 2, a copy we did not have in our library. In addition, if you are a fan of Dav Pilkey, we now have his Dog Man series, you’ll find them right next to Captain Underpants, so give them a try.

If you are not interested in these graphic novels, I have a new series that may do the trick! The Baby-Sitters Club by Ann M. Martin has been a favorite for years. Well, it just got updated. Raina Telegmeier, has given this series a make-over. She’s turned them into graphic novels. Raina has taken your favorite characters and brought them to life in her books. They are still dealing with baby-sitting issues, friendship problems, and other funny mix-ups. I’ve added the first four books in this series: Kristy’s Great Idea, The Truth about Stacey, Mary Anne Saves the Day, and Claudia and Mean Janine. If you’ve never been interested in graphic novels, give these a try!
